Dog Training Isn’t About Waving a Magic Wand; You Can Become Your Dog’s Best Trainer…

No Wand, Spells, Potions, or Pixie Dust Required!

It’s Not Magic is a positive reinforcement, force-free training company. This means that we will not use any aversive methods in order to achieve results. Instead, I will teach you how to build a great relationship with your dog through rewards-based training. Every dog is different, so no two training plans are the same, but you can rest assured that punishment and correction is never the answer– for your dog, or anyone else’s. Training should be fun, for you and your dog!

My goal from our sessions together is that you and your dog grow into a cohesive team that trusts and depends on each other. We will walk through the process together, and I will demonstrate and teach you how to change your dog’s behaviors, creating a harmonious relationship between you and your four-legged-friend. But behavior change like this doesn’t happen overnight; practice and consistency is essential. Throughout our sessions, we’ll discuss your progress, and refine or rework any skills you may be struggling to teach your dog.

If you’re looking for a quick fix with little involvement on your part, we won’t be successful as a training team.

If you’re interested in becoming “the alpha”, “pack leader”, or want to see your dog submit to you and obey your every command, I can’t help you there.

What I can do is teach you how to understand your dog, encourage them to make better choices, and learn how to become a reliable ally your furry family member can count on.

If that sounds great to you, let’s set up a phone inquiry!

About Me

Hi, I’m Fiona! I can’t wait to meet your dog. I have always been fascinated by animals and their behavior. This lifelong interest is what drove me to become a Canine Training and Enrichment volunteer at the East Bay SPCA in high school, when my training journey began. The hours I spent volunteering showed that canine cognition was the right path for me. I received my B.A. in Anthrozoology (the study of the bond between humans and animals) from Carroll College in Montana in May 2020. I gained more knowledge and experience working on the Animal Care team at the East Bay SPCA, where I completed the Fear-Free Shelters course and learned more extensively about canine and feline welfare, behavior, and enrichment. After leaving SPCA, I became a Petco-Certified Dog Trainer in May 2022. I received my CPDT-KA certification in October! I am a Proud member of the Pet Professional Guild.

I’m excited to bring this wealth of knowledge to It’s Not Magic clients and prove the company’s namesake; training a dog is not down to waving a magic wand! Reward-based, force-free training just takes consistency, patience, and ultimately doing what’s best for your dog.

My own dog, Bodie, a senior Chow Cattle Dog Pitty mix, loves keeping me on my toes with his worker bee brain!
